Power factor correction · Nationwide

Stop paying for power you never used.

Low power factor quietly inflates your demand charges every month. We find it, size the fix to your plant and supply the equipment. Typical payback is 10 to 18 months.

what one meter paid per kWh compared with its neighbor, in the same building, in the same month. The difference was power factor.

From a real bill · one building, two meters
Meter A · 76% power factor
used 50 kW, billed 117 kW

Meter B · 99.8% power factor
used 79 kW, billed 79 kW
5.5¢ /kWh

What power factor is

Your motors pull power that does no work.

Big motors, like crushers, conveyors, compressors and chillers, draw extra current just to run. That current does no useful work, but your utility still has to supply it.

So the utility bills you for it, through higher demand charges or power factor penalties. The lower your power factor, the more you pay for power you never used.

How it works

From your bill to a fix that pays for itself.

  1. We read your bill.

One month of bills tells us whether power factor is costing you money, and roughly how much.

  2. We assess your site.

Our technical team looks at your equipment and how it runs, so the fix is sized to your plant.

  3. We specify and supply the equipment.

You get a written proposal with the savings, the payback and the carbon reduction before you commit to anything.

  4. Your contractor installs it.

Installation is done by a qualified electrical contractor. We stay involved until it's running.

  5. You see it on your bill.

Lower demand charges and fewer penalties show up on your bills, where you can verify them yourself.

Questions
How do I know if my plant has a power factor problem?

Your bill usually shows it, as a power factor penalty, a power factor percentage, or billed demand well above the demand you actually used. Send one month of bills and we'll tell you.

Do you install the equipment?

No. We assess your site and specify and supply the equipment. Installation is done by a qualified electrical contractor.

How long until it pays for itself?

Typical payback is 10 to 18 months. Your proposal shows the projected payback for your plant before you commit.

How do I know it worked?

Compare your bills before and after. Lower billed demand and fewer penalties show up on your own bills.

Is there anything else in it for us?

Correcting power factor also reduces strain on your electrical equipment, and the carbon reduction counts toward Scope 2 goals.
